Aquamain can locate and repair water leaks, we use gas insertion for the location of water leaks. The gas itself is totally harmless and is a mixture of 5% Hydrogen and 95% Nitrogen.

The pipe work is traced out to find the known route of the pipe and then the gas is inserted into the pipe from an outside tap or internal stop tap. The gas then escapes through the leaking pipe and because of the makeup of the gas, it is very very light and rises to the surface.
The gas is then detected by a sensitive sniffing device that emits an audible alarm when it detects the gas on the surface. The gas will penetrate through tar, brick paviours and almost all other surfaces including concrete, although this may require leaving the gas on for a longer period to enable the gas to penetrate the concrete.

Pipes that are laid in a duct will not benefit from this type of leak detection as the gas will just stay in the duct and not rise to the surface. The same is true if a plastic membrane is laid just below the surface as this will again stop the gas from rising to the surface. In this situation we are able to use other methods such as cut and test.
